Trailblazing, pioneering and setting a standard for excellence were all characteristics of the 2014 Howard University Second Annual University-wide Research Day on April 1, 2014. More than 400 Howard University scholars gave poster and oral presentations, and participated in panel discussions and forums in the Louis Stokes Health Sciences Library. Presentations revealed the scope, breadth and vision of multidisciplinary research within the University.

The significance of the event, attended by more than 700 participants, was captured by keynote speaker, Dr. Norman B. Anderson, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice President of the American Psychological Association. Also, members of HU-Advance IT, an organization of Howard University women faculty and researchers, presented the first annual Women in STEM “Researcher of the Year” award to Dr. Georgia Dunston, founder of the National Human Genomics Center at Howard University. Dr. Sonya Smith is Principal Investigator for HU Advance-IT, which was a platinum sponsor of the event. Other sponsors included ELSEVIER (Gold Sponsor) and PEPCO (Silver Sponsor).
