Message from the Dean

Gary L. Harris, Ph.D
Dr. Gary L. Harris

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

As you know, the requirements of a top tiered research institution include a wide scope and depth of research activity. We are pleased that Howard’s scholars/researchers continue to conduct research of the

highest caliber, to publish their findings in prestigious journals worldwide, and to make significant contributions to the global human condition. We also note that faculty mentorship and commitment to student research is the key to their success while matriculating at Howard and long after they have graduated from the university.

In this issue, we feature our annual Research Day, which included participants from the 13 schools and colleges, including faculty, students, alumni, and postdocs. Of special interest is the research of Marjorie Gondre Lewis, featured in this issue, who won the Senior Faculty Award for her oral presentation; and others whose names and presentations are listed in this issue.

We applaud all of the Research Day participants and encourage each of you to continue making a difference with your research now and in the future.

Sincerely,

Gary L. Harris, Ph.D., P.E.
Dean, Graduate School
